Burj Al Arab

Project Description:

The “world’s most luxurious hotel” Burj al Arab has become an iconic, most-recognizable symbol for Dubai. Most commonly recognized as the sail building, Burj al Arab was in fact designed to resemble the sail of a dhow or an Arabian shipping vessel.

Burj Al Arab was built on a man-made island nearly 920 feet off the Jumeirah coast. The building was built with the intention of creating a symbol of Dubai. Construction began in 1994 and was completed in 1999. Nearly 3,000 companies, 250 designers and 3,5000 workmen contributed to the hotel’s construction. The hotel has undergone several renovations since its opening.

Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal
Hong Kong

Project Description:
Cathay Pacific Services Ltd. invested approximately HK $4.8 billion to build the world’s largest cargo terminal at the Hong Kong International Airport. The facility is scheduled to begin operations in early 2013. Built upon 10 hectares and adjacent to existing cargo servicing facilities, the Cathay Pacific terminal was designed to carry a throughput capacity of 2.6 million tonnes. It is designed to be one of the most sophisticated terminals in the world and strengthen Hong Kong International Airport as the world’s leading air cargo and logistics hub.

City of Dreams features 420,000 square feet of gaming space including 400 tables and 1,200 gaming machines, 1,400 guest rooms and suites, 175,000 square feet of retail space and over 20 dining venues. Crown Towers is the premium hotel on the property. It has approximately 260 rooms, suites and villas, a casino and restaurant. Its signature attraction is The Bubble, a theatre featuring an HD media projection presentation.
 
VBL oversaw full BIM services, managed design coordination, architectural, structural and MEP modeling.

Project Description:
Kauffman Stadium is a 40,933-seat Major League Baseball stadium and home to the Kansas City Royals. Built in 1968, the stadium was built specifically for baseball. It is often referred to as one of the best examples of modernist stadium design.
Kauffman Stadium underwent a $250 million renovation following the 2007 season. Construction was completed in July 2009. Renovations to the park included a new high-definition scoreboard, outfield concourse, restaurant, hall of fame and conference center, wider concourses, new ticket gates and press facilities.
In 2012, the Major League Baseball awarded Kauffman Stadium with the 2012 All-Star Game.

PPG Paints Arena
Pittsburgh, PA USA

Project Description:
CONSOL Energy Center is a 18,500-seat, multi-purpose indoor arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is home of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. CONSOL Energy Center was constructed to provide fans with wider, more comfortable seats with more legroom and closer to the action

Sprint Center

Project Description:
The Sprint Center is a large, multi-use indoor arena in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The arena was a key feature in the city’s recent redevelopment effort.
A unique feature of the Sprint Center is the outside facade, which is constructed entirely of glass. The indoor arena includes state-of-the-art electronics and a 360-degree LED video screeen. The building seats 18,000 to 20,000 depending on the venue. It hosts host major league sports, concerts, shows and special events.
The Sprint Center also serves as headquarters to the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.
Virtual Building Logistics worked with City of Kansas City, Downtown Arena Design Team, Mortenson Construction, Walter P Moore, M-E Engineers, Inc. on the project. VBL provided MEP modeling and clash detection. The project is noted for having been completed ‘on time and on budget.’

Target Field
Minneapolis, MN USA

Project Description:
Target Field is a Major League Baseball ballpark located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is home to the Minnesota Twins. Construction began in 2007. The Minnesota Twins opened Target Field with their first game on April 2, 2010. It is a 40,000-seat, open-air ballpark. The ballpark features great sight lines from every seat and spectacular views of the Minneapolis skyline. Its construction cost approximately $522 million dollars.
VBL collaborated with Populous, Hammel, Green & Abrahamson, Inc. and Mortensen Construction on the project. VBL assisted in BIM services.
Despite challenges early in its construction, Target Field was completed three months ahead of schedule. The ballpark was built environmentally friendly and received LEED-Silver certification. Upon certification, Target Field was the greenest ballpark in America.

US Embassy Improvement Project
Manilla, Philippines

Project Description:
The United States Embassy Manila improvement project was one of the largest undertaken by the U.S. Department of State. It was part of the Embassy’s commitment to improve public services. It also reinforced close ties between the United States and the Republic of the Philippines.
The $119 million construction project included:
• a new Consular public services building
• larger offices
• a more modern medical clinic for veterans on the Seafront Compound.

VBL collaborated on the United States Embassy Manila project with Forsspac (formerly Forssman Pacific). VBL provided full BIM services.

Yale University Trumbull College
New Haven, CT USA

Project Description:
Trumbull College is a residence hall at Yale University. Built in 1929, the historic hall was originally comprised of two free-standing buildings. In 1933, the buildings were re-designed in Gothic style and connected to a new building creating a quadrangle.
In 2006, major renovations began to modernize the interconnected structures of Trumbull College. Renovations included:
• exterior granite and limestone façade were cleaned and replaced
• new windows were installed
• a new slate and membrane roof were installed
• The interior of the building was brought up to current ADA standards
• Interior design was updated

Yankee Stadium

Project Description:
Yankee Stadium is a Major League Baseball stadium located in The Bronx in New York City. It is home to the NewYork Yankees. The new construction replaced the club’s previous home, which opened in 1923.
The new ballpark was built on 24 acres (97,000 m2) of public parkland, directly across the street from the old Yankee Stadium. The stadium’s price tag of $1.5 billion makes it the most expensive baseball stadium ever built. It is the second most expensive stadium ever built to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (as of 2012).
Ground was broken in August 2006 on the new construction. The new ballpark opened in April 2009.

VBL collaborated with Populous, Thornton Tomasetti and Turner Construction on the project. VBL oversaw MEP Modeling.
